Saugatuck and Douglas
The picturesque towns of Saugatuck and
Douglas are nestled in the hillside and bordered by the
Kalamazoo River on its way to Lake Michigan. Restaurants
ranging from casual to fine dining are scattered throughout
the town, as well as numerous spots for dessert and coffee.
Many offer outdoor seating, weather permitting, so you can
enjoy the people watching and soak in the ambience of the
towns.
Oval
Beach of Saugatuck has been rated by
Conde Nast’s Traveler Magazine
as one of the 25 best shorelines in the world, and one of
America’s 11 best beach towns.
National Geographic Traveler Magazine rated it one of
the top two freshwater beaches in America, and the
Chicago Tribune ranked it
number one of the Midwest’s five best beaches.
When visiting Saugatuck and Douglas you will
have your choice of water access, ranging from the WWII “Duck”
which ferries between the two towns, an
old-fashioned sternwheeler which provides tours of the
river, chartering a fishing boat, sail boat or yacht, or
renting, kayaks, jet skis and pontoons.
Golfers have their choice of three 18-hole
championship courses, including one course designed by
golfing legend
Arnold Palmer.
